... approximately 8 2,100 per million gallons of available

storage as compared with the Jubilee Reservoir which cost about

$2,700 per million gallons.

Outlet Tunnel.

101.

It is not practicable to construct this tunnel -

which is assumed to be 8 ft. internal diameter - in instalments.

102. The tunnel would be provided with a shaft close to

the intake bay furnished with a counterbalanced roller sluice

for the purpose of isolating it from the reservoir for inspection

or maintenance purposes, arrangements being made at the outlet

bay for access to the interior when the tunnel has been emptied

by means of a drain, and for the release of air.

103.

Sluice Valves are assumed to be provided at the outlet

bay, but it is intended that the flow of water in the aqueduct

should be automatically controlled at the filter house.

104. The estimated cost of the tunnel, including the inlet

and outlet bays, the sluice shaft, the catchwater shaft and the

settling basin amounts to S 1,450,000, the length being about

1

1/3 miles.

f

OTHER WORKS.

Aqueduct from the tunnel outlet to the Filters.

105. The total cost of this work is estimated at

$ 2,760,000, the portion constructed in tunnel being 3850,000

Filter House and Pumping Station No. 1.

106. The first instalment would involve the construction

of the clear water basin, the buildings for Pumping Station

No. 1, sufficient filters for a maximum supply of 10 million

gallons per diem, and it is assumed that three pumping units,

each capable of discharging 5 million gallons per diem into the

service reservoir, would be provided.
